Aurélien !

“I'm amazed that digital technology can be used to help film-lovers collect fragments, peacefully share an admiration and keep traces of it... like an album of reminiscences where time stands still...” This impression of cinema could apply to all the festivalgoers of Lumière... Aurélien Ferenczi’s wondrous expression is found in his book, Framboise, quelques hypothèses sur Françoise Dorléac. When you ask people from Lyon – and afar – who knew him, what word they would use to describe him - this man who was editor-in-chief of the Lumière daily newspaper, who has just passed away- the adjectives funny, cultured, stimulating... are put forward. “Peacefully sharing an admiration” is indeed a stimulating phrase, applied with ardour throughout this week's festival, through each of the texts Aurélien has left us. “Occasionally, a single scene illuminates a film to the point of encapsulating its entirety”; “Whatever you do, don't resist the emotion that engulfs you”; (It) “is one of those rare films whose characters you just want to embrace.” These phrases by Aurélien, so universally relatable yet poignantly powerful, convey his love of cinema as much as his love of life. This year's editions of the Lumière newspaper are dedicated to him, for everything he has given us.
