Paul Laverty introduces Land and Freedom by Ken Loach (1995)
“Ken wanted the actors to be real anarchists, former fighters. Ken and I have been friends for 30 years, and we discuss a topic that obsesses us: the fracturing of the left. In the USA, Argentina and Hungary, extreme right populism is on the rise. Last year, we consumed more fossil fuel than ever, and governments paid the oil industry more money than ever. So in order to combat what is happening in Gaza today, the rise of the right and the existential crisis of our world, the left must be united.”
