LaCinetek, a video-on-demand platform dedicated to heritage films, is celebrating its 10th anniversary. Its director of digital and editorial development, Alexandre Blain, tells us more.

10 YEARS

It's been a big success. We’ve accomplished our dual mission: to showcase our cinematographic heritage and to create a dialogue between the cinema of yesterday and today. This transmission is the driving force behind LaCinetek, thanks to the recommendations of filmmakers and the sharing of their tastes. We          ask them to list their top 50 films, it’s kind of like offering a guide to cinephiles, to pass on that heritage, which is a reflection of perspectives on today's society and the world.

THE FUTURE

There’s a lot of movement right now. By the end of 2023, we’d gone from ten films based on a specific theme to 100! LaCinetek's activity is both editorial (texts, interviews about films) and aimed at winning over new audiences, with one goal in mind: to become the number one reference for the great films in cinema history.

STAKES AT MIFC

Our challenges are twofold: to raise awareness of LaCinetek and our project, which is an independent platform based on a model of an association. We have no shareholders. We can promote films without making their profitability a priority. This allows us to highlight  hidden gems or films from the European film library; we can also showcase their artistic or political value. We have that freedom. Our second challenge is to promote cinematographic heritage.
