Quick bio: Originally from Odessa, Oleksandra Alya Gorchakova has been living in Lyon since 2022 and aspires to become a film director. After training in Kiev, she went on to film everything from music videos to a documentary about the leader of the rock band LPN, Andriy Basov. Oleksandra Alya now hopes to work as an assistant director.

My favourite filmmakers: Nana Djordjadze and her film 27 Missing Kisses; I love her sense of narrative and her taste for metaphor. I also love Wim Wenders and Dziga Vertov.

The movie theatre where I discovered the cinema: The cinema in the town of Bilhorod-Dnystrovskyï, I must have been 9 or 10 years old when I went to my first screening. I thought I was seeing a cartoon, but it was a vampire movie!

My favourite film: Taxi Driver by Martin Scorsese, for the psychological aspect of the character played by Robert De Niro: it's as if he represented the face of young Americans who didn't fit into society at the time.

Why I volunteer: I worked as a volunteer at the “Odessa Photo Days” photography festival, where I helped to organise master classes and welcome artists. I also made promotional videos for the Odessa International Film Festival. What I love is the contact with the public and the artists, and being able to contribute to the effervescence of the festival is pure happiness !
