BRIEF BIO: Preparing breakfast at the Halle Tony Garnier, selling DVDs at the Village or festival related merch during the Lumière Award ceremony: for his debut as a volunteer, 21-year-old Quentin Terisse has already assembled an impressive à la carte menu. A computer science student at Ecole 42 Lyon he’s bursting with energy and passion for the Institut Lumière: ‘It's the place I go to the most often!’ My parents bought me a subscription for Christmas! The young man from Lyon who grew up in Mauritius wouldn’t have missed the festival for anything in the world. A fan of Agnès Varda and David Lynch, he even convinced his pal Leopold to join the team of volunteers. ‘We can do all the missions together! Working for the festival is also my way of thanking the Institut Lumière, which lets me discover amazing films’. What a gem of a volunteer!
MY FAVOURITE FILMMAKERS: I’m a big fan of Agnès Varda: her gaze on the world is filled with empathy and love, and it’s contagious! I also like David Lynch because there is a certain nihilism in his œuvres that I identify with.
THE MOVIE THEATRE WHERE I DISCOVERED THE CINEMA: As a child, I used to often go to the Star Cinéma Bagatelle in the town of Moka in Mauritius, where I grew up. At the time, there were plenty of unauthorised DVD street sellers – I saw lots of films thanks to them !
MY GO-TO FILM: « La Pointe courte by Agnès Varda is my favourite film. I find it overflowing with tenderness, empathy and love. It's a feel-good film that gives you hope!
WHY I VOLUNTEER: Joining the festival team represents a real turning point. I decided to also sign up as a volunteer for the "Les Hallucinations Collectives" festival and for the "Anciela" association, dedicated to protecting the environment. The generosity and selflessness involved in volunteering are important values for me; it's
MY MISSIONS AT THE FESTIVAL: I’ll be participating by selling DVDs at the Village and preparing breakfast for the attendees of the Japanime All-nighter at the Halle Tony-Garnier. I’ll also be a roaming seller of merch during the Lumière Award Ceremony.
