In this film, based on a true story, we rediscover the art of storytelling that is so specific to Icíar Bollaín: a way of blending the natural, the everyday with the threat and impending chaos. Bollaín adds her totally feminine point of view as a woman filmmaker. She tells the tale from the mindset of a heroine, an intelligent woman of middle age, who waits calmly and coolly, nevertheless fraught with anxiety, for the potential storm from the past to arrive. The actress Blanca Portillo is superb at navigating the sometimes-tight shots of Bollaín’s camera. She brilliantly employs her vulnerable gaze to convey the very ‘Icíar Bollaín’ idea of taking the intimate, organic path to talk about society and, why not, politics.
