Directed according to the imagery and novelistic music of its time, the 1950s, Rosaura is a multi-faceted work. The social tale of a small family-run boarding house involves a seemingly intense love affair and a noir thriller, recalling Laura by Otto Preminger (1944). This hybrid film maintains its suspense and vitality with a series of consistent relevant twists and turns. Restored in 4K Cubic in collaboration with the Society for Audiovisual Heritage, exclusively for the Lumière film festival, Rosaura is a gripping gem, offering a non-didactic vision of the female condition. A disconcerting and tragic character, Rosaura dominates, unnerves and fascinates until the very end, making it quite difficult to know where the truth lies.
