The Carny by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds in Wings of Desire

In a cottony, almost slow-motion bastringue atmosphere, with accordion and vibraphone, Nick Cave sings this lament for a dead circus horse in a Berlin club that looks like a living room, and it's perhaps the best filmed concert in the history of electric music (or New Wave, as it was called at the time). It's a concert you'd like to be at, alongside Solveig Dommartin, who sways sensuously, a concert before the big halls were packed to the rafters and rock was a cultural industry. The acrobatic heroine has already listened to this sublime song on vinyl in her caravan, and there's enough here to seduce an angel (Bruno Ganz) into becoming human. After The Carny, the Bad Seeds continued with From Here to Eternity. Earlier, in the same room, we could hear the riffs of Crime and the City Solution, Mick Harvey's other band. It’s an Australian takeover of Berlin...
