CHANEL is delighted to be Official Partner of the Festival Lumière for the seventh consecutive year. True to the approach initiated by Gabrielle Chanel from the very dawn of cinema, the House maintainsstrong creative ties with leading filmmakers and emerging talents, encouraging creativity and the passing down of knowledge.
CHANEL contributes to the restoration of masterpieces such as Marcel Carné’s Port of Shadows (1938), Jean Renoir’s The Rules of the Game (1939) and, more recently, Wim Wenders’ Paris, Texas (1984). The House also supports cultural heritage initiatives such as Rosalie Varda’s Mémoires d’Images project and the MoMA Film Benefit. During this year’s festival, the 4K-restored versions of Todd Haynes’ Poison (1991) and Safe (1995)—also thanks to CHANEL—will be screened. The director is a guest of honour of the Festival Lumière this year.
The House is also partnering with the “Permanent History of Women Filmmakers” programme, which celebrates female directors from all corners of the globe who, each in their own way, have left a lasting mark on the history of cinema in their respective countries. Throughthis partnership with the Lumière Festival, the House reaffirms its commitment to the preservation and passing down of cinematographic heritage to a wide audience.
