The Lumière film festival, the preeminent event of classic cinema, will take place from Saturday the 12th to Sunday the 20th of October. Through the festival, the Lumière Institute renews its commitment and support for cinema of yesterday and today, paying tribute to its history, celebrating its diversity and richness, while also bringing together all the actors committed to its preservation and vitality.
The Lumière Classics label was created to showcase the finest restorations of 20th-century films and to encourage an increasingly wide audience to (re)discover them. Films bearing the label may be included in different sections including "New restorations" lineup which will present both Classics and "Treasures & Curiosities".
This label highlights the extensive work carried out by archives, film libraries, rights holders and foundations aimed at restoring classic films from the history of cinema, as well as lesser-known films that are just as essential to the worldwide cinematographic landscape. The search for lost prints, the meticulous reconstruction of films and their restoration using ever-more advanced technology constitute a second life for the films, after their shooting and theatrical releases.
Archives, film libraries, producers, distributors and studios from all over the world are invited to submit their restored films of the year.
Registrations have been closed since Friday June 21. Once selected, the films will be screened in the festival's theatres in Lyon and its metropolitan area.
Are you working on, or have you recently completed a restoration?
Do you intend to soon publish, distribute, or broadcast a restored print of a classic film?
