Chaplin

A charming Sunday at the Halle

POSTED ON 12.10.2026

“Mom, what is this film?” “It’s about a man named Charlie Chaplin.” “Look, Kylian, there’s a piano on stage!” With the famous “Hakuna Matata” from The Lion King playing in the background, the mini film buffs took their seats this morning at the Halle Tony Garnier to attend the Chaplin silent film concert.

On the lineup for the family screening were three restored shorts: The Boxer, The Floorwalker and The Vagabond, accompanied on live piano by Didier Martel.

Six-year-old Mathys, with a snack on his lap, was one of the early arrivals. “This will be his first Chaplin experience, which we really wanted him to discover,” exclaimed Anya and Denis, his grandparents. But before seeing the Tramp appear as an apprentice boxer, young and old alike (re)discovered the famous scene of the cabin suspended in mid-air from The Gold Rush on the huge screen. The whole theater erupted with laughter–the Tramp was the ideal way to start a Sunday.
