DOC OF THE DAY

A woman without limits!

POSTED ON 16.10.2026

Aude Vassalo’s documentary, Marina Vlady, une actrice dans la guerre froide, reveals an actress who was multifaceted yet ever-constant.

THE SUBJECT: The personal and professional life of actress Marina Vlady, who recently passed away.

THE METHOD: An introductory prologue, archival shots of her first trip to the USSR in 1959, narrated by a female voice-over, film clips and commentary by the actress herself.

BONUS: “2 or 3 Things We Know About Her” is how the narrator opens the documentary, referencing Jean-Luc Godard’s film that Marina Vlady starred in, 2 or 3 Things I Know About Her. Without necessarily following her life in chronological order, which makes it more interesting, the film chooses instead to capture the spirit of an artist shaped by major historical events. It traces her romantic, political and artistic journey; her forthright comments; her brand of feminism; the freedom she felt to reveal her body, her limitless energy…it’s all laid bare. Clear and profound, this story of a life unlike any other is well-edited and flows naturally. We are moved to see the defining moment of Marina Vlady’s film career, Princess of Cleves. We watch a girl transition into a woman, taking things head on, including leaving it all behind to live in what was then the Soviet Union. But as this documentary shows, nothing is impossible for an adventurer.
