Lumière kicks off the centenary celebration of Fritz Lang’s masterpiece, filmed in 1926 and released in 1927, with a new, original score composed and conducted by Don Davis, (composer of The Matrix): The Centenary Symphony.

Metropolis is a landmark film in the history of cinema, the most expensive work of the silent era, shot in Berlin in 1925 and 1926 against the backdrop of a divided society and the instability of the Weimar Republic.
With its unbridled ambition, striking modernity, and aesthetic shockwave whose influence remains immense to this day: Metropolis is an extraordinary œuvre, the pinnacle of German Expressionism and a touchstone of the science fiction genre.
The Lumière film festival and the Auditorium - National Orchestra of Lyon, along with the Europäische FilmPhilharmonie and Don Davis, launch the celebration to commemorate 100 years of this masterpiece with a silent film-concert event and a brand-new score unveiled for the first time.
