The cinema created by Louis and Auguste Lumière and their operators was the first in the world. The Lumière films are among the finest, yet the least well-known.
Two feature films, Lumière, the Adventure Begins and Lumière, the Adventure Continues, were theatrically released in France and abroad to great success. L'Aventure Lumière is a rare publication, illuminated by Lumière photograms and enriched by Thierry Frémaux's enthralling commentary.
This deluxe art book brings together for the first time the written texts and oral commentary by Thierry Frémaux from Lumière, The Adventure Begins and Lumière, The Adventure Continues— two films that pay homage to the Lumière brothers. Each restored photogram is accompanied by a corresponding text, offering a thoughtful and enlightening rediscovery of cinema’s earliest works. Through his inimitable voice, Thierry Frémaux conveys his admiration for the invention of the cinematograph and the humanity captured in its images — blending analysis, emotion and history.
A visual and narrative journey to the origins of the 7th art.
