Marin Karmitz: filmmaker, producer, collector

Founder of mk2 (celebrating its 50th anniversary), a key figure in the cinema world and an ardent fan of art and photography, Marin Karmitz will be in Lyon to introduce a duo of politically committed films that he directed, as well as one of the countless others he has produced (by his friend, filmmaker Romain Goupil) and two exceptional photo exhibitions.

Screenings

Comrades by Marin Karmitz (Camarades, 1970, 1h24)

Two exhibition events!

Marin Karmitz, founder of mk2, is also an avid photographer and art collector. Following the success of his exhibition at the Centre Pompidou in Paris, he is honouring us with an unprecedented collaboration with the Institut Lumière featuring two exhibitions to discover during the festival.

America, America - Marin Karmitz Collection
The exhibition America, America, being shown for the first time, takes a look at American photography of the 20th and 21st centuries, based on a selection of some forty works drawn from the collection of filmmaker, producer and distributor, Marin Karmitz.
Galerie Photo, 20 rue du Premier-Film, Lyon 8th - 3 October 2024 – 5 January 2025, Tuesday through Sunday, 11.00 am to 7.00 pm – During the festival: daily from 10.00 am to 8.00 pm

Marin Karmitz presents: SMITH & Lukas Hoffmann
For the first time in a single venue, this ‘carte blanche’ exhibition brings together SMITH (Paris, France, 1985) and Lukas Hoffmann (Zug, Switzerland, 1981). Although their respective works belong to two different worlds, both artists share a remarkable sensitivity regarding the human figure, in its most evanescent forms.
Photo Gallery – 3 rue Pléney, Lyon 1st - Wednesday through Sunday, 2.00 pm to 7.00 pm – During the festival: daily from 10.00 am to 8.00 pm
