Timothy Brock-1Timothy Brock

Composer and conductor Timothy Brock specialises in early 20th century music and live performances of silent movie scores. He has restored and conducted the music of silent films such as Shostakovich's New Babylon (1929), Manilo Mazza's Cabiria (1913), Satie's Entr'acte (1924) and Antheil's Ballet mécanique (1924).

As the musical director of the Chaplin Estate since 1999, he has restored a dozen of Chaplin’s original scores, most notably Modern Times, City Lights, The Kid, The Circus and The Gold Rush.

Timothy Brock-2Since his debuts with the ONL in 2003, he has returned each season to lead one or several projects. In October 2019, as part of the year’s Lumière Film Festival, he conducted the reconstructed score of Abel Gance's The Wheel, the legendary and monumental œuvre restored to its original splendour.

Gaud Mével, a young woman from Paimpol, is in love with sailor Yann Gaos, whose life is destined for the open seas... This brilliant adaptation of Pierre Loti's novel is a mélange of poetic impressionism and remarkable intricacy. Charles Vanel stars in one of his most memorable roles alongside Sandra Milowanoff, a few years before the silent classic Dans la nuit (restored by the Institut Lumière and screened at the 2022 Lumière Film Festival) would reunite the pair.

Grégoire Rolland's improvisation on the monumental Cavaillé-Coll organ of the Auditorium will accompany the magnificent restoration of Jacques de Baroncelli's Pêcheur d'Islande.

France, 1924, 1h33
Restoration by Lobster Films (FPA Classics), in collaboration with the CNC, ARTE and Caroline de Baroncelli.
