Presenting their new restorations: Jacques Audiard, Jean Becker, Fernando Meirelles, Nicolas Winding Refn

Watch movies with the same excitement (or almost!) as when they were first released! These newly restored films will be projected on the big screen, with the directors in attendance!

Backfire by Jean Becker (Échappement libre, 1964, 1h45) 
David, a journalist, and the beautiful Olga are asked by smugglers to transport three hundred kilos of gold to Lebanon. During the trip, David decides to keep the treasure for himself... Becker brings together the legendary screen couple of Jean-Paul Belmondo and Jean Seberg.

Pusher by Nicolas Winding Refn (1996, 1h50, Prohib. ages -16)
and the first screening of the short film Beauty is not a Sin by Nicolas Winding Refn (2024, 8min) - Will precede the film Pusher for the screenings on Thursday 17th and Friday 18th.
Frank is a heroin dealer in Copenhagen. His debt to the Serbian trafficker Milo prompts him to pull off a major coup. But the police burst in during the transaction... Embracing a raw style and raw realism, Pusher was the first feature film - and first success-  for the director of Drive.

Read My Lips by Jacques Audiard (2001, 1h59)
Paul, an ex-delinquent, becomes an intern for Carla, a hearing-impaired secretary suffering from loneliness. An unlikely love story, fraught with manipulation, is born... This drama took home three César awards. Vincent Cassel and Emmanuelle Devos give remarkable performances.

City of God  by Fernando Meirelles and Kátia Lund (Cidade de Deus, 2002, 2h10, Prohib. ages -16)
A young boy in ‘City of God’, a favela in Rio de Janeiro, dreams of becoming a photographer and escaping the city’s endless cycles of violence... A jarring film with jittery camerawork, it mirrors the unstable pulse of the neighbourhood, its explosiveness and its adrenaline rushes.
